Kaspersky Labs has been victorious in its defense against a lawsuit brought by spam-merchant Zango.

Zango, infamous for its Zango Easy Messenger and other programs, insisted that their software notorious for providing pop-up adverts to its users was not spyware and had sued Kaspersky Labs in order to force them to reclassify them as legit software.

Scam or Software??

We’ve had several customers come to us over the past few months with the same complaint.
A program called “MBS Micro Billing System” has taken over their computer system, claming that they have infact signed up to a porn site called “MySexxWorld” and informing them that they owe the company £40.00 for the priviledge of the service which “someone on their computer” signed up for. So, faced with a string of customers experiencing this problem, we investigated further.
First of all, before we work out if we should remove the popups for our customers, lets find out if they actually legally owe money to the company. The First port of call is the good old Google search. What’s not impressive is that simply putting “MBS Micro Billing Systems” into Google does not bring up anything about the company. Instead the first listing is an article from the Guardian regarding the legalities of this system, closely followed by loads of forum posts from people requesting help. Not a good start, although we have discovered that this has affected users on a much larger scale than originally thought of.
